Adapting to life in Los Angeles is a bit like Chemistry 101: learning about pluses and minuses. It’s a city that boasts some of the most amazing restaurants in North America; the number of eateries where you can dine on perfect mounds of burrata or succulent scrapes of bone marrow are plentiful. Needless to say, it’s also a city where body image is completely warped. Actors, who are already bone-thin, are pressured to lose 10-15 pounds, the daily Lifebooker deals for diet pills, and a 365-day bikini season forces us to question whether we can hit up In-N-Out for a cheeseburger and animal fries at 2 am (or any time, for that matter). The underlying question is this: How do we maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle, while living in a city where we have friends starving themselves before auditions and trying not to pass out at Runyon?
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Yeah duh, tell me something I don’t already know.” Possibly in less of a Cher from Clueless tone — I doubt the voices in my head (a combination of Cher and Regina George) are the vocal guides to your life as well.
Here’s the point. I’m going to be working as the Strengthen Your Heart LA correspondent, giving you healthy lifestyle tips and introducing you to healthy recipes, so you CAN eat that burrata and poutine – in moderation, of course. Keep up with me, and you can have your chocolate fudge cake and eat it too.
